Into the forrest

In April we got a visit from Carolina from Entre 2 Arbóles, a small NGO working in the close forest of Mompiche, trying to protect it and it’s animals. Carolina made a workshop with the kids about birds and then we all did an excursion together to their small house up on the mountain, in the middle of the forrest. There we got the possibility to close up see parrots, toucans and a bit further away, howler monkeys playing around in the trees. It’s always a very special experience taking the kids out in the nature, many of them have been a lot in Mompiches surrounding forest, while others hardly have left the village. Between them, they know tons about animals, plants and legends in the area and while I’m walking carefully trying to avoid getting superspiders (10cm? 15?) in my hair, they stroll on finding new  bugs under every branch. Sitting on the porch of Carolina and Wilfridos house, looking out over the amazing forest all the way down to Mompiches beach, one of those few moments of complete silence and attention came, all of us waiting for the first bird to fly by and extremely enthusiastic when they finally started their show!

Temporary pause

Yes, at the moment Proyecto Mompiches work in Mompiche are paused for about two months. This break is due to the economical situation where both of us in charge, Carolina and me, need to work outside the project for a bit to be able to keep doing our work in the village. This far in to the project, we are still working voluntary, getting food and accommodation from the organization but everything outside that, we cover ourselves. So, that means we need to have a back up and that´s why we now left Mompiche for a little while, to work to earn money. During this months, we are also focusing on activities that further on can help us get the project sustainable so we maybe one day can have a small salary and be able to do our work without the economical stress we are living with today.
